Jiffy Helton-Sarver hugs a security forces officer during the U.S. Air Force Security Forces Basic Officer Course graduation ruck. Helton-Sarver joins U.S. Air Force Security Forces Basic Officer Course students on their 4-mile graduation ruck in memory of her son on August 15, 2024, at Joint Base San Antonio-Camp Bullis, Texas. Her son, 1st Lt. Joseph D. Helton Jr., served as a security forces officer assigned to the 6th Security Forces Squadron at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla. Helton was killed by an explosively formed projectile that hit his vehicle Sept. 8, 2009, during a deployment to Baghdad, supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. The 343rd Training Squadron honors Helton’s legacy and heroism at every Basic Officer Course graduation and Helton-Sarver marches alongside the students throughout every graduation ruck.
